Australia Vietnam Relationship Stronger Than Ever

Vietnam has one of the fastest growing economies in the region and the relationship between Vietnam and Australia is stronger than ever.  The 25th anniversary of the Australia Vietnam Business Council was celebrated at the Sydney Boulevard Hotel on Wednesday, 28 April 2021 is a testament to that.

Included in attendance at the celebration were Former Trade Minister Andrew Robb AO and            Mr Nguyen Phu Hoa, Trade Commissioner & Chief of the Vietnam Trade Office.  AVBC has nurtured the relationship with Austrade/DFAT and the Vietnam Trade Office in particular.

Priority areas agreed and expected to provide significant opportunities during Prime Minister Scott Morrison’s Official visit in August 2019. During the visit, both Prime Ministers of Viet Nam and Australia had agreed to develop the Australia Vietnam Enhanced Economic Engagement Strategy to help both countries to take advantage of emerging market opportunities. The Strategy will include recommendations for measures to accelerate both countries’ post-pandemic economic recovery (Source:  DFAT, 14 August 2020).

AVBC National President and Founder, President Laurence Strano said “the modest $15.5 billion two-way trading relationship (which includes $3.4billion two-way services trade for 2019) would continue to grow significantly with the rapidly expanding Vietnam population of 100 million people and the expanding middle class and Vietnam and Australian Government commitments to economic and trade liberalisation”.

“The Vietnamese-Australian population and Australians who have Vietnam experience (especially AVBC committee members and those who have assisted) also provided a firm base to help or assist with leveraging and bridging cultural gaps and understanding. This has resulted importantly from which the AVBC has nurtured a useful alumnus, “and assisted in the building of relationships, Mr Strano said. We underate the importance networking and leveraging and of test marketing and cultural understanding as it impacts on businesses efforts. AVBC has endeavoured to do as much as it can to foster trade and investment facilitation as well as business matching and value- adding”.

“Over 25 years the Council has established an international network now poised to further significantly  take advantage of the skills, innovation and goodwill of both governments and the membership,” he said.

Invited guests who attended the celebrations were Members from the Business Community, Representatives from the ASEAN, Australian Export Councils, Austrade and Investment Houses.
